Advertised Job SummaryUnder direct administration of the Dean of the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM), with direct report to the Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs, the Human Resources (HR) Director duties include providing leadership and direction to plan, manage, and oversee the full-scope of activities for HR functions for the College of HRSM; to include but not limited to, recruitment, selection, retention, employer-employee relations, compensation, performance evaluation, equal employment opportunity, worker’s compensation, telecommuting, ADA compliance for faculty/staff, and succession planning.
The HR Director for the College of HRSM partners with leadership and staff within the Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management sectors. This role is responsible for aligning HR programs with the department’s goals, facilitating HR processes, and providing guidance on HR-related issues. The HR Director will work closely with the Dean, Associate Dean of Faculty and Staff Affairs, department administration, faculty, and staff to ensure that HR practices support the achievement of academic and operational objectives.
Minimum Required Education and ExperienceRequires a bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred QualificationsExperience working with the USC Office of Human Resources and Office of International Support for Faculty & Staff.

- Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to human resources activities.
- Ability to implement administrative policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide administrative and professional leadership and direction for Human Resources services in higher education setting, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels within the institution.

Job DutyHuman Resources Management:
- Provide leadership, direction, and assume full management responsibility for HR activities in the College of HRSM, initiating and managing various complex human resources functions; to include but not limited to, recruitment and selection, employer-employee relations, compensation, performance evaluation, equal employment opportunity, worker’s compensation, telecommuting, ADA compliance for faculty/staff, and succession planning.
- Direct HR transactions for faculty, staff, temporary employees and affiliates. Advise employees, management, and leadership in the application of Human Resources. Manage the development and implementation of Human Resources goals, objectives, policies, procedures; for each department within the College, ensuring the appropriate services and staffing levels are being allocated within the constraints of budget support.
- Supervise Human Resources Management staff (2). Manage employees for optimum performance to promote compliant behavior, provide guidance and direction regarding implementation of policies and procedures, per established University, state, and federal laws; relative to initiating and processing human resources actions. Furnish ongoing feedback to assist employees with setting and achieving goals that cultivate confidence and present job satisfaction; regulate productivity and simultaneously meet challenges and demands with positivity. Present opportunities for employees to learn, experience growth, and enhance professional development through training, workshop and conference attendance, and university service.
- Collaborate with HR Classification and Compensation Department to ensure that compensation practices are fair, equitable, and align with university policies and market standards.

- Collaborate with department administration and senior leadership to understand business goals and align HR strategies to support these objectives. Provide insights and recommendations on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent management to enhance departmental effectiveness.
- Support employees through career planning, life needs, personal, and professional wellness offerings. Assume responsibility for personnel records, and serve as custodian of records.
- Select, train, motivate, counsel, and evaluate the College of HRSM’s HR personnel.

- Partner with hiring managers to develop effective recruitment strategies, ensuring a diverse and qualified applicant pool for faculty and staff positions. Oversee onboarding processes for new and returning hires, ensuring a smooth transition into the department and university culture. Collaborate with Human Resources Office of International Services (OIS) as needed. Oversee I9 Advantage processes for new employees to ensure compliance with Federal guidelines and deadlines.
- Actively seek required Provost approvals, post advertisements into the PeopleAdmin System to be viewed on the University’s job webpage, and national publication; ensure accurate search committee records are secured, disseminate and follow-up on information regarding Inclusive Excellence in recruitment efforts, provide EEO data from advertised posting to search committee chairperson to acknowledge the composition of inclusivity among applicants.
- Provide effective leadership and direction to recruitment and retention efforts to further workforce inclusive excellence. Promote equal opportunity with faculty, staff, and students in promoting equity, to effectively serve and demonstrate inclusive excellence within the College of HRSM.
- Foster harmonious working relationships with the leadership team, supervisors, departments and USC Offices with which the programs are coordinated.

Employee Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations within the department, addressing concerns, conflicts, and complaints in collaboration with the Office of Employee Relations.
- Advise and assist leadership, faculty, staff and supervisors; with confidential and problematic matters. Meet with management and employees to identify problems.
- Conduct Exit Interviews for employees leaving their position within the College of HRSM. Ensure the process is managed in a timely manner and prior to the effective last date of employment. Retain necessary materials in the employee’s personnel file for the appropriate period.

Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure that HR practices within the department comply with federal, state, and local laws, as well as university policies. Generate reports on HR as needed in HRSM.
- Generate required SACSCOC documentation for accreditation review of HRSM FTE Faculty, Temp Faculty, and PhD Graduate Student Faculty; in conjunction with home departments to make certain the University is compliant with policies regarding official documentation of faculty credentials. This is an ongoing process that includes the following actions as applicable to faculty listed as instructor of record: upload official transcripts and other relative information into Compliance Assist for the purpose of verifying credentials by the standards set by SACSCOC; Complete Alternative Credentials Form, Complete Graduate Coursework Form, Complete Graduate Teaching Assistant Form.
